Bench milestone
A 2-plate bench is impressive, but the ratio tells the truth.
Two plates has cultural weight because it looks clean on the bar: 45, 45, bar. But a 225 lb bench is not the same achievement for every lifter.
Use the bodyweight ratio to judge whether it is a first serious milestone or a genuinely advanced press.

|---|---|---|---|
| 120 lb | 225 lb | 1.88x BW | Very strong relative milestone. |
| 140 lb | 225 lb | 1.61x BW | Very strong relative milestone. |
| 160 lb | 225 lb | 1.41x BW | Strong commercial-gym milestone. |
| 180 lb | 225 lb | 1.25x BW | Strong commercial-gym milestone. |
| 200 lb | 225 lb | 1.13x BW | Strong commercial-gym milestone. |
| 220 lb | 225 lb | 1.02x BW | Strong commercial-gym milestone. |
| 250 lb | 225 lb | 0.90x BW | Good absolute lift, still below bodyweight. |

What to do next
Beginner
Build repeatable technique and add reps before chasing milestone plates.
Novice
Use a stable rep range and small jumps; most progress still comes from consistency.
Intermediate
Start treating weak points and fatigue as separate problems.
Advanced
Use smaller cycles, more deliberate variation, and fewer random max attempts.

FAQ
Fast answers
Is a 225 bench rare?
It is uncommon among casual gym users and common among people who train bench seriously for years. Bodyweight and form standard matter.
Is 225 bench advanced?
At lighter bodyweights, yes. At heavier bodyweights, it may be closer to intermediate. Use the ratio table rather than the plate count alone.
Should I max out to test 225?
Not if your recent rep work already estimates it. Use a 1RM calculator and test only when technique is stable.
